I tried one of my 33 12.50's and with out the 3rd break light it fits fine with the exception of the rubber stops needing to be extended.... But I am wondering if this is too much weight....Anyone know for sure?

You can put a 33 on there and I know some that have 35s but you tail gate may start to bend..

Side note: Your hindges are rusty... I wouldn't do it for long.. Just through it in the back for now. (strap it down)

It's a gray area, really. Any large tire will put more strain on the hinges and latch. I think, though, that a 33 should be fine.

Mine has a 33x12.5 Baja Claw on it.

It seems to be fine, for the most part. The hinges are really stiff; even on a hill, the gate will stay wherever you put it. I had some jiggling when I hit bumps, but that was because the latch peg had come loose, and moved back some. All I did was tighten it back up, and all is well.

see, it's a great excuse to upgrade to a nice swing out tire carrier, I REALLY like mine from Primal Customz, they can build anything you want....

She's right!
A swing-out is the way to go, for several reasons. Not only is it a good place to put your spare, but it's also a good spot for a high-lift, water/gas cans, etc.

I haven't had Primal do any work for me, YET, but I've heard nothing but good things!

But, if you don't have the budget (like me) the tailgate should be a-ok until you're ready to upgrade.

you need to have your third brake light to pass inspection. if you are gonna keep the tire on there until you get a swing out, you'll need to get an extension kit so it will clear the tire.

you just need a brake light to pass inspection. We fabbed something up in like 10 minutes for my step sons rig, where we velcro a light there for the inspection then just take it off.

I still need to do this. I have seen many a jeep with just cut off pieces of PVC as spacers and it lifts the light to clear the tire.

I would say at whatever size you have to "rig it" to make it fit is when you should get a swing out tire carrier.
