Cool idea...
« on: January 21, 2016, 07:59:22 AM »
For any of you rocking an xj/zj/etc... I saw this cool idea on expedition portal. Given the rear windows like to pop out when ya beat em, this seems like an awesome idea to eliminate that AND gain some extra storage.

I would do this definitely in my JK. Jscherb did it with his prototype top. I hope it makes it to market

I have done this on one XJ.
What I did was cut a piece of plexiglass as a replacement window using the original seal and then cut a rectangular hole for a RV/Marine semi clear access hatch. It was weather proof and I could reach in and grab stuff out of the back without opening the rear hatch. I also did something very similar for a truck camper shell. There must be 1000's of different styles and sizes available from RV and marine outfits.
I like the one he did for that XJ but I can't help but think if he went the ready made hatch, it would have been a lot less fab work, more light would get in, and being ABS plastic would take more abuse.

I agree he does some awesome work. itd be nice if some of the bigger companies would look at those threads and see the demand for such awesome stuff and actually buy his designs off of him.

They do actually. I believe GR8TOPS used his prototype for some of their offerings. His modular trailer is going to be sold by somebody. Guy is freaking crazy skilled.
